iSafe Connect was created by two Australian parents driven by a singular truth: love alone is not enough to keep our children safe in a world that doesn’t always understand them. As parents to three profoundly autistic, non-verbal boys, we knew we couldn’t rely on chance or goodwill alone. We needed a way to empower families and give emergency responders the tools to better understand the people they’re helping especially those who can’t speak for themselves.
We created iSafe Connect from a place of deep empathy and urgency. It’s not just a platform it’s a digital safety net, a source of comfort, and a powerful way for vulnerable people to finally be seen, heard, and protected, even in their most critical moments.
The Moment Everything Changed
One morning, our seven-year-old son Oliver—non-verbal, autistic, and entirely unaware of danger—went missing. Within minutes, our world stopped.
It began like every other morning: early wake-up, stimming, and cuddles with Mum’s phone. But just after 6 a.m., our front door was ajar. Oliver had vanished.
With three non-verbal autistic boys in our care, we are incredibly diligent. We lock everything, place keys high up, and check constantly. But that day, something went wrong. Our youngest had likely unlocked the door sometime in the night.
The panic was instant.
“Oliver is missing!” Stephen screamed.
I ran barefoot through the streets, frantically calling his name. A neighbour shouted he’d seen a little boy running toward a major road. My legs gave way. I was sick with fear. I couldn’t breathe.
Stephen drove past and yelled, “Call the police, Kat!” I dialled 000 through sobs, terrified of what I might hear.
A miracle: A registered nurse had found Oliver. He was safe but barefoot, alone, and wearing only a nappy.
I collapsed when I saw him. Oliver simply looked up at me and reached for the phone in my hand. He had no awareness of the trauma that had just unfolded.
That was the day we realized: we needed a better way. Not just for our family but for all families like ours.
Turning a Nightmare Into Action
We built iSafe Connect so this fear doesn’t have to be your reality.
The platform allows people to securely and voluntarily share essential personal and medical details that first responders can access in real time from a safe distance. Through wearable Bluetooth beacons and our secure apps, iSafe Connect bridges the communication gap between vulnerable people and emergency services. Whether it’s autism, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, mental health conditions, or language barriers iSafe Connect helps responders understand who they’re helping before making assumptions.
What Makes iSafe Connect Different?
- Built on next-gen Hyperscale cloud tech for speed and safety.
- Device agnostic, works on all smartphones.
- Bluetooth-enabled beacons with a 30m range.
- Video, audio, and custom strategies to help de-escalate crisis moments.
- SOS alerts, emergency contacts, and real-time geofencing.
- Full user control over what is shared and when.
Most importantly, the system is built with respect. It’s not about labels. It’s about informed, compassionate response, when seconds count.
Our Journey So Far
In 2017, we founded Spectrum Support, Australia’s first Autism & Law Enforcement charity. We’ve trained thousands of frontline police for free, so they can better support neurodivergent people during high-stress interactions. We’ve consulted with government agencies, law enforcement leaders, and disability advocates around the world.
Then, in 2020 during the pandemic, the vision expanded. We realized the same tool that could help our boys could help millions of others, carers of elderly parents, people with medical conditions, and communities navigating hidden disabilities.
That’s how the Global Voluntary Disclosure Project became iSafe Connect, a new name, a stronger system, and a renewed commitment to safety without borders.
This is Personal. This is Global. This is iSafe Connect.
We know we won’t always be here to protect our sons. But with iSafe Connect, we’ve built a future where they and millions of others are never truly alone.
Thank you to the strangers who brought our son home. Thank you to the first responders who showed compassion. And thank you to every family who now walks this journey with us.
